Tips for Your Marketing Job Search
Quantify results on your resume
Marketing resumes that list outcomes beat those that list duties. Replace 'managed email campaigns' with the open rate lift, list size growth, or revenue attributed. Hiring managers scan for proof that your work moved a number.
Build a portfolio before you apply
Most marketing roles expect to see work samples, even for mid-level positions. Collect campaign briefs, copy examples, analytics screenshots, or case studies into a shareable link. Waiting until after you apply to assemble this puts you behind candidates who already have it ready.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists marketing openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Match your specialty to the job title
Titles like 'growth marketing manager' and 'brand marketing manager' signal very different skill sets to employers. Read the job description for the primary channel or function and lead your application with experience that maps to it directly, not your broadest marketing background.
Prepare channel-specific interview answers
Marketing interviews often go deep on one channel rather than surveying everything. If the role is paid search, expect questions about bidding strategy and attribution. If it's content, expect questions about editorial calendars and SEO. Practice answers tied to whichever channel dominates the job description.
Negotiate using the full offer, not just base
Marketing compensation often includes bonuses tied to campaign performance or growth targets. When negotiating, ask how those targets are set and what past payouts have looked like. A lower base with an achievable performance bonus can outperform a higher base with no variable comp.
Marketing Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most marketings?
The companies hiring the most marketings right now include Amazon, TikTok, and Petroleum Marketing Group, with the largest share of openings in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings are concentrated at both large consumer brands and mid-size technology companies scaling their go-to-market teams.
How many marketing jobs are remote?
About 32% of marketing openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more flexible functions for location-independent work. Content, email, and digital performance roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while brand and event marketing roles more often require in-person presence.
How do you become a marketing professional?
Start by earning a degree in marketing, communications, or business, then build hands-on experience through internships, freelance projects, or managing campaigns for small businesses or nonprofits. Develop proficiency in at least one core channel, whether paid search, content, or social, and build a portfolio of work samples that shows measurable results. Entry-level roles in coordinator or specialist positions are the most common starting point for moving into full marketing careers.
Can I get a marketing job with little or no experience?
Yes, but you need to demonstrate practical output rather than relying on your degree alone. Employers hiring junior marketers look for self-initiated work: a blog you grew, a paid campaign you ran on a small budget, or social accounts you managed for a local business. Internship experience, even unpaid, carries significant weight. Applying to coordinator or associate-level roles and being specific about the channel you want to focus on makes your application more competitive than a generalist pitch.
What does the marketing interview process look like?
Most marketing interviews involve an initial recruiter screen, one or two rounds with the hiring manager and team, and a skills exercise or take-home assignment. The assignment typically asks you to analyze a campaign, write sample copy, or propose a strategy for a hypothetical scenario. Interviews go deep on the channel most central to the role, so expect detailed questions about your hands-on experience with specific tools, metrics, and past campaign outcomes rather than general marketing theory.
Where can I find and apply to marketing jobs?
You can find and apply to marketing jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to each one that fits.
