Strategic Account Executive Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a strategic account executive in Illinois?
Most strategic account executive roles in Illinois require a bachelor's degree and a background in B2B sales, account management, or a related commercial function. Illinois does not issue a state license for this role, so the path runs through demonstrated revenue experience rather than a credentialing board. Candidates who have worked as account managers, business development representatives, or inside sales professionals at Chicago-area technology, financial services, or logistics firms are well positioned to move into strategic account executive openings.
How much do strategic account executives make in Illinois?
Strategic account executives in Illinois earn a median of about $66,290 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $31,200 for the lowest 10% to over $142,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire strategic account executives in Illinois?
Employers hiring strategic account executives in Illinois right now include IFS, Braze, and Canva, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of enterprise technology, financial services, and healthcare IT firms means demand is consistent year-round, especially among companies headquartered in or with major commercial operations in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Which Illinois cities have the most strategic account executive jobs?
Chicago, Itasca, and Illinois have the most strategic account executive openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it is home to the headquarters and regional offices of major enterprise technology, financial services, and healthcare firms, while Naperville and Schaumburg draw hiring from the dense corporate and technology park corridors along the I-88 corridor, where mid-market and Fortune 500 companies both maintain large commercial teams.
Are there remote strategic account executive jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 77% of strategic account executive openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how common desk-based and digital selling has become in enterprise sales. The parts of the role most likely to stay remote are pipeline management, executive presentations, and renewal negotiations, while new business development at key accounts may still involve in-person meetings.
How can I get hired as a strategic account executive in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving up from a business development representative or inside sales role at a Chicago-area technology or SaaS company, where many employers run structured sales development programs that feed directly into account executive tracks. Large Illinois-based firms in financial services and enterprise software regularly hire associates into named account support roles as a pipeline for future strategic account executive openings. Building a record of quota attainment, earning a platform certification such as Salesforce or HubSpot, and targeting companies with formal sales rotation programs gives candidates without prior account executive titles a concrete competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to strategic account executive jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to strategic account executive jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings. Search the listings for roles that match your experience and target industry, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
