Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in marketing or business, and many Chicago-area firms give preference to candidates with an MBA from Illinois institutions such as Northwestern's Kellogg School or University of Chicago Booth. There is no state-issued license for this role, so advancement comes from leading measurable campaigns, managing teams, and building a portfolio of results across functions like digital, brand, and demand generation.
How much do vice president of marketings make in Illinois?
Vice president of marketings in Illinois earn a median of about $162,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $95,990 for the lowest 10% to over $276,340 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire vice president of marketings in Illinois?
Employers hiring vice president of marketings in Illinois right now include Tolmar, Staples, and Fairmount Park, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's deep base of Fortune 500 headquarters and mid-market consumer brands across the Chicago metro means senior marketing roles open regularly across industries from packaged goods to financial services.
Which Illinois cities have the most vice president of marketing jobs?
The cities with the most vice president of marketing openings in Illinois are Darien, Rockford, and Collinsville. Chicago drives the overwhelming majority of demand as the state's corporate headquarters hub, home to major consumer brands, healthcare systems, and financial firms, while suburban markets like Deerfield and Schaumburg add volume from large campuses that house national marketing functions.

Brand strategy, digital oversight, and agency management functions are the parts of the role most commonly performed fully remote.
How can I get hired as a vice president of marketing in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is building a record at the director level first, then moving up within Illinois's robust corporate sector. Candidates without VP experience should target director or senior manager roles at mid-market Chicago companies, which tend to promote from within faster than large Fortune 500 firms. Adjacent roles in product marketing, growth marketing, or marketing operations at companies like the Tribune Publishing group or mid-size Loop-area agencies provide the cross-functional exposure Illinois employers look for. An MBA from a Chicago-area program and measurable campaign outcomes in your portfolio carry the most weight in the absence of a VP title.
