Tips for Your Account Manager Job Search
Quantify your retention and expansion results
Account managers are hired to grow and keep revenue. Replace vague descriptions like 'managed client relationships' with specific outcomes: churn reduced, renewal rates improved, or upsell revenue added. Numbers convert faster than responsibilities on any account manager resume.
Highlight your CRM experience by name
Hiring managers scan for Salesforce, HubSpot, or Gainsight before reading anything else. Name the platforms you've used and describe how you used them, whether for pipeline tracking, QBR prep, or renewal forecasting. Generic 'CRM experience' gets skipped.
Target openings by account type not just industry
Enterprise, mid-market, and SMB account manager roles require different skills and have different interview tracks. Filter openings by the account tier you've worked, not just the industry, so your experience maps directly to what the role demands.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists account manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a QBR walk-through for interviews
Many account manager interviews include a role-play or case study built around running a quarterly business review. Practice presenting account health, risks, and growth opportunities as if the interviewer is your client. Generic sales pitches miss the mark entirely.
Negotiate comp using your book of business
When negotiating, anchor on the total annual recurring revenue you've managed or the average deal size you've handled. Employers price account manager roles against revenue responsibility, so framing your ask around portfolio size is more persuasive than citing market rates alone.
Account Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most account managers?
The companies hiring the most account managers right now include State Farm, AutoZone, and GameStop, with the largest share of openings in Texas, California, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Technology and healthcare companies consistently post the highest volume of account manager roles year-round.
How many account manager jobs are remote?
About 15% of account manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in the business-to-business space. SaaS account management and customer success roles tend to have the highest share of remote options compared to field-based or territory-focused positions.
How do you become an account manager?
Most account managers start in a sales development, customer success, or inside sales role and move into account management after demonstrating they can retain and grow client relationships. Building familiarity with a CRM, practicing pipeline communication, and taking on client-facing projects in your current role are the most direct paths to your first account manager title.
Can you get an account manager job with little or no experience?
Yes, entry-level account manager roles exist, particularly at SaaS companies and agencies that hire from customer support or sales development pipelines. Emphasize any experience you have handling client communication, resolving escalations, or coordinating cross-functional teams. A portfolio of outcomes from those interactions, even informal ones, carries more weight than a blank work history.
What does the account manager interview process look like?
Most account manager interview processes include an initial recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on your client management philosophy, and a practical exercise such as a mock QBR presentation or a written account plan. Final rounds often bring in a sales leader or cross-functional peer to assess how you'd collaborate across teams.
Where can I find and apply to account manager jobs?
You can find and apply to account manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from companies across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and industry background, then apply directly to each one that fits.
