Who's Hiring

Tips for Your Account Manager Internship Search
Apply earlier than you think you need to
Large employers with structured summer cohorts open account manager internship applications the preceding fall and close them months before the role starts. Smaller companies and co-op programs post closer to start dates, so new openings appear year-round. Check listings regularly and submit as soon as a role fits rather than waiting for a single season.
Build proof before you need it
Hiring teams expect limited work history from intern candidates, so give them something concrete to assess. For account manager roles, that means documented projects, case study write-ups with measurable outcomes, or client simulation exercises that show you can manage relationships and analyze account data. Link to the work wherever you can.
Work your campus network and apply directly at the same time
Campus career fairs surface structured internship programs tied to your university, and professors or career center staff often know which employers recruit from your school before roles post publicly. Apply directly to companies running smaller cohorts alongside that campus activity so you reach employers who don't attend fairs but still hire interns.
Practice the account manager intern interview format out loud
Account manager intern screens typically combine behavioral questions with case conversations around client retention, upsell scenarios, or pipeline analysis. Practice answering out loud, walking through your reasoning step by step, since interviewers weigh how you think through a client problem as much as the answer you land on.
Target structured account manager internship programs early
Larger companies run rotational or cohort-based account manager programs designed to train people new to the field, including sales development representative tracks that feed directly into account management. These programs recruit early and fill fast. Identify the ones that match your background and apply in the first wave, before general intern pools open.
Set your work-type filter before you start searching
On-site roles are 20% of the account manager internships listed here. Decide what you can actually commit to before you start sorting through listings, then filter by location and work type from the start so you spend time only on roles you can take.
Account Manager Internships: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an account manager internship?
Lead with coursework and projects rather than work history, since hiring teams expect limited experience at the intern level. For account manager candidates, a concrete artifact like a documented client outreach project, a case study with measurable outcomes, or a sales simulation write-up gives recruiters something to assess. Combine direct applications with campus career fairs, where recruiters often move faster for students they meet in person.
Can an account manager internship turn into a full-time job?
Many employers extend return offers to strong interns, but conversion is never guaranteed. For account manager interns, what actually drives it is consistent performance on real client work, team headcount at the end of the summer, and how early the employer sets a return-offer decision timeline. Position for one by treating every assignment as permanent-hire work, but keep pursuing other opportunities in parallel.
When should I apply for account manager internships?
Earlier than most expect. Large employers with structured summer cohorts typically open applications the preceding fall, sometimes as early as September or October. Smaller companies and co-op programs post much closer to start dates, so openings appear year-round. Check listings regularly rather than waiting for a single annual window.
Are account manager internships paid?
Most professional account manager internships in the U.S. are paid. Compensation varies by company size, industry, and location, and it differs meaningfully between a large enterprise with a formal intern program and a small regional firm running a cohort for the first time. Where employers disclose pay, it appears directly in the listing.
What should an account manager internship resume include?
Lead with projects, not work history. Include two or three complete, documented projects that show client communication, data analysis, or campaign management, naming the tools used and linking to the work where possible. For account manager candidates, a case study write-up or a school project with measurable outcomes is the concrete proof recruiters want. Add relevant coursework and keep the resume to one page.
Are there remote account manager internships?
Yes. Remote and hybrid roles make up 80% of the account manager internship listings here, with the rest on-site. Remote cohorts fill fast because they draw applicants from across the country, so apply early and filter by work type to see them before they close.
What is a sales development representative (SDR) internship for account managers?
Many account management teams run SDR internship tracks that place early-career candidates in prospecting and pipeline roles as a direct entry point into account management. These programs target people new to professional sales, provide structured coaching from working account managers, and recruit competitively in the fall for summer starts. Apply in the first wave, as cohort seats fill before general intern pools close.
Can international students get account manager internships?
Yes. F-1 students can intern through CPT while enrolled or through OPT work authorization after finishing a degree, and the employer does not have to file anything for either, so many companies are open to international interns. Confirm your eligibility and timing with your university's international student office before accepting an offer.
