Tips for Your Area Sales Manager Job Search
Quantify your territory revenue results
Hiring managers want to see numbers, not duties. Replace phrases like 'managed a territory' with the revenue you owned, the percentage growth you drove, or the number of accounts you closed. Concrete figures set your resume apart from every other applicant.
Match your vertical to the opening
An area sales manager who sold medical devices into hospital systems reads very differently to one who sold SaaS to SMBs. Tailor your resume to reflect the buyer type, deal cycle, and industry of each role you apply to, not just the job title.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists area sales manager openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight your CRM proficiency upfront
Most area sales manager roles require daily use of Salesforce, HubSpot, or a similar platform. Name the CRM by brand in your resume summary and note how you used it to forecast pipeline, manage accounts, or report performance to leadership.
Prepare a territory plan for interviews
Many hiring managers ask area sales manager candidates to present a 30-60-90 day plan for the territory. Sketch out how you would prioritize accounts, identify whitespace, and ramp revenue. Arriving with a draft shows you understand the role before day one.
Negotiate with comp plan details in hand
Before accepting an offer, ask for the full on-target earnings breakdown, including base, commission structure, and accelerators. Understand whether the quota tied to the territory is historically attainable, so you can negotiate from an informed position.
Area Sales Manager Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most area sales managers?
The companies hiring the most area sales managers right now include Performance Foodservice, Sanofi, and Johnson & Johnson, with the largest share of openings in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is especially strong in medical device, industrial distribution, and technology sales.
How many area sales manager jobs are remote?
About 24% of area sales manager openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the role is inherently field-oriented in most industries. The sub-areas most likely to offer remote or hybrid flexibility are software and SaaS sales, where in-person client visits are less frequent than in manufacturing or medical device distribution.
How do you become an area sales manager?
Most area sales managers start as individual contributors in field sales or account management, build a record of quota attainment over several years, and then move into a role that includes territory ownership and sometimes a small team. Taking on mentoring responsibilities, volunteering to train new reps, and learning to read pipeline and forecast reports all accelerate the path into management.
Can you get hired as an area sales manager without management experience?
Yes, many companies promote high-performing sales reps into area sales manager roles without prior management experience, particularly in industries like distribution, medical devices, and technology. Demonstrating consistent quota attainment, the ability to influence peers, and a clear understanding of how to develop a territory are often weighted more heavily than a management title on your resume.
What does the area sales manager interview process look like?
The process typically starts with a recruiter screen focused on territory experience and quota history, followed by a hiring manager interview that digs into your sales methodology and account management approach. Later rounds often include a presentation or mock territory plan, and final interviews frequently involve a regional or national sales director who assesses strategic thinking and cultural fit.
Where can I find and apply to area sales manager jobs?
You can find and apply to area sales manager jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your industry background and territory experience, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
