Account Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a account manager job in Washington?
Your strongest path into account manager work in Washington runs through federal contracting firms, government-facing technology companies, and professional services consultancies that cluster along K Street and in the NoMa and Navy Yard neighborhoods. Candidates with experience managing government or enterprise accounts stand out here. Building familiarity with government procurement cycles and earning a Salesforce or HubSpot certification gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire account managers in Washington?
Companies currently hiring account managers in Washington include Nutanix, Uber, and Fortinet, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's employer base leans heavily toward government contractors, policy-driven technology firms, and national associations, so account managers with public-sector client experience are especially sought after here.
Are there remote account manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, though availability depends on the role: account managers in tech and SaaS tend to work remotely more often, while those supporting government clients or managing in-person agency relationships are more likely to be on-site. About 69% of account manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the city's mix of desk-based and client-facing work. Hybrid arrangements are most common among technology and media sector employers.
How can I get a account manager job in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Washington is a sales development representative or account coordinator role at one of the city's many federal IT contractors or associations based in Foggy Bottom or Bethesda. These employers regularly hire junior candidates and promote from within. Interning with a government-facing firm or a national trade association gives you the client-management exposure local hiring managers look for, and familiarity with CRM tools makes a tangible difference at the application stage.
Which industries hire the most account managers in Washington?
The sectors hiring the most account managers in Washington are Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's economy is shaped by its proximity to federal agencies, which drives outsized demand for account managers who can manage government contracts, compliance relationships, and policy-sensitive client portfolios.
