Company Background
Censys’ mission is to be the one place to understand everything on the internet. Frustrated by the lack of trustworthy Internet intelligence, we set out to create the industry’s most comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date map of the Internet. Today, Censys delivers real-time Internet intelligence and actionable threat insights to global governments, over 50% of the Fortune 500, and leading threat intelligence providers worldwide.
Censys is building the most credible, robust map of the Internet through IP scanning, DNS lookups, web crawling, and the ingestion of millions of certificates. Censys was founded by security researchers who are passionate about developing technology that provides anyone the power to fully understand their digital risk and exposure. Individuals and enterprises — and anyone in between — can harness this power to discover new information and insight as the Internet, IoT, and Cloud evolve. We are a true security startup with midwestern roots, and we believe that a map of the Internet, or a map of your organization's assets, can quickly help guide organizations to the answers they need to protect themselves from vulnerability and risk.

Enterprise Sales Engineer Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a enterprise sales engineer in Illinois?
Illinois has no state-issued license or exam specific to enterprise sales engineering, so entry typically follows a technical education and experience path. Employers in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs look for candidates with a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering, paired with hands-on product or solutions experience. Many candidates transition from technical support, software development, or IT consulting roles within Illinois-based tech and manufacturing firms before moving into pre-sales.
How much do enterprise sales engineers make in Illinois?
Enterprise sales engineers in Illinois earn a median of about $99,710 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,570 for the lowest 10% to over $162,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire enterprise sales engineers in Illinois?
Employers hiring enterprise sales engineers in Illinois right now include Alvarez & Marsal, Isys Technologies, and C3EL, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of enterprise software vendors, managed services providers, and industrial technology companies in the Chicago metro creates consistent year-round demand for this role.
Which Illinois cities have the most enterprise sales engineer jobs?
Chicago, Scott AFB, and Illinois account for the most enterprise sales engineer openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates due to its dense cluster of enterprise software offices, financial services firms, and corporate headquarters, while Naperville and Deerfield draw volume from the large technology and healthcare companies that have established regional hubs along the I-88 and I-94 corridors.
Are there remote enterprise sales engineer jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 64% of enterprise sales engineer openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the role's strong reliance on video-based product demonstrations and digital collaboration tools. Discovery calls, technical deep-dives, and proposal work are most commonly done remotely, while executive briefings and on-site proof-of-concept engagements still draw candidates back into the field.
How can I get hired as a enterprise sales engineer in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a sales engineering role from a technical adjacent position such as solutions consultant, technical support specialist, or software implementation analyst at an Illinois-based tech employer. Large Chicago-area companies and regional managed services providers regularly hire for associate or junior pre-sales roles that pair candidates with a senior engineer. Building a portfolio of product demonstrations and earning a vendor certification in Salesforce, AWS, or Microsoft Azure significantly strengthens an application for candidates without direct pre-sales experience.
Where can I find and apply to enterprise sales engineer jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to enterprise sales engineer jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across Chicago and the broader Illinois market. Search the listings to find roles that match your technical background and territory preferences, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
