Enterprise Sales Engineer Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a enterprise sales engineer in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers expect a bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or information technology as the baseline. No state-issued license is required for the role. Candidates typically build two to four years of experience in technical support, solutions consulting, or software implementation before moving into enterprise sales engineering. Ohio's concentration of manufacturing and technology firms means hands-on product knowledge, particularly in industrial or cloud software, consistently differentiates candidates during hiring.
How much do enterprise sales engineers make in Ohio?
Enterprise sales engineers in Ohio earn a median of about $97,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,720 for the lowest 10% to over $148,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire enterprise sales engineers in Ohio?
Employers hiring enterprise sales engineers in Ohio right now include Meter, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, and Cyera, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's blend of Fortune 500 technology headquarters, large healthcare systems, and advanced manufacturing firms keeps demand for enterprise sales engineers consistent throughout the year.
Which Ohio cities have the most enterprise sales engineer jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Ohio account for the largest share of enterprise sales engineer openings in Ohio. Columbus drives volume through its dense concentration of technology firms, insurance headquarters, and fintech companies, while Cleveland and Cincinnati attract openings tied to industrial manufacturing, healthcare IT, and regional corporate offices of national software vendors.
Are there remote enterprise sales engineer jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most technical roles. Enterprise sales engineers spend significant time in client-facing discovery calls, virtual demos, and proposal work that translates naturally to remote settings. About 50% of enterprise sales engineer openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026. The portions of the role most commonly performed remotely are solution presentations, RFP responses, and internal pipeline reviews, while on-site proof-of-concept installations tend to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a enterprise sales engineer in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a technical support, inside sales, or solutions analyst role at a mid-size Ohio technology or manufacturing software company. Large Ohio employers like Honeywell and Oracle run associate pre-sales and sales development programs that accept candidates with strong technical degrees but limited field experience. Building a portfolio of mock demo recordings or completed certifications in platforms like AWS or Salesforce gives Ohio candidates a measurable edge when competing against more experienced applicants.
