Technical Sales Consultant Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical sales consultant in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers require a bachelor's degree in an engineering, computer science, or business discipline as the starting point. There is no state-issued license specific to technical sales consulting in Ohio, but candidates targeting industrial or medical device sales benefit from earning a Certified Professional Manufacturers' Representative credential through MRERF. Building hands-on product knowledge through an engineering internship or inside sales role at an Ohio manufacturer is the most direct path to a first position.
How much do technical sales consultants make in Ohio?
Technical sales consultants in Ohio earn a median of about $97,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $67,720 for the lowest 10% to over $148,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical sales consultants in Ohio?
Employers hiring technical sales consultants in Ohio right now include PERRY proTECH, TIMAC AGRO USA, and WISC Enterprises, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's deep manufacturing and industrial base means many of these employers are tied to automation, process controls, and enterprise software sold into plant and operations environments.
Which Ohio cities have the most technical sales consultant jobs?
Columbus, Ohio, and Athens are the Ohio cities with the most technical sales consultant openings. Columbus drives volume through its technology corridor and large corporate headquarters, Cleveland draws openings from its manufacturing and healthcare technology ecosystem, and Cincinnati benefits from its concentration of consumer goods and industrial companies with national sales teams based in the region.
Are there remote technical sales consultant jobs in Ohio?
Yes, though the role is more field-oriented than most desk positions. About 100% of technical sales consultant openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the fact that many employers still expect regular client site visits. Pre-sales engineering, product demonstration, and account management functions within the role are the segments most likely to carry a remote or hybrid designation.
How can I get hired as a technical sales consultant in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an inside sales associate or sales development representative role at an Ohio manufacturer or software company, where you build product knowledge and quota experience before moving into a field consultant position. Large Ohio employers like Parker Hannifin and Diebold Nixdorf run structured associate and rotational programs that place new graduates into supported selling roles. A technical degree, a SPIN Selling or Challenger Sale certification, and a documented internship in a technical environment will differentiate candidates who lack direct sales experience.
Where can I find and apply to technical sales consultant jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to technical sales consultant jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings across industries and experience levels. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
