Business Development Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development professional in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers require at minimum a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, or a related discipline, followed by experience in sales or account management. Ohio does not issue a state license specifically for business development roles, so candidates build their qualifications through relevant work history, industry certifications such as the Certified Professional Sales Person credential, and a demonstrated record of revenue growth in their target sector.
Which companies hire business development professionals in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring business developments in Ohio include Vertiv, American Heart Association, and Jobot, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's mix of Fortune 500 headquarters, regional financial institutions, and large healthcare networks creates consistent demand for business development talent well beyond seasonal cycles.
Which Ohio cities have the most business development jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland lead Ohio for business development openings. Columbus drives the largest share of postings through its concentration of insurance, financial services, and technology headquarters, while Cleveland's manufacturing and healthcare corridors and Cincinnati's consumer goods and logistics companies contribute substantial hiring volume across all experience levels.
Are there remote business development jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than many fields, because business development work is fundamentally relationship-driven and communication-based rather than tied to a physical site. About 53% of business development openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how readily the role translates to virtual selling environments. Prospecting, proposal development, and account management are the functions most frequently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a business development professional in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a sales development representative or inside sales role, which large Ohio employers across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati routinely use as a pipeline into business development. Companies like Progressive, Nationwide, and Cardinal Health run structured onboarding programs that train candidates without direct BD experience. A relevant degree, completion of a recognized sales certification, or a portfolio of internship-based prospecting work gives candidates a clear edge when applying to these associate-level openings.
Where can I find and apply to business development jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to business development jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and target sector, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
