Business Development Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a business development in California?
Most California employers hire business development professionals with a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, communications, or a related field. No state-issued license is required for the role itself. Breaking in typically involves starting in an inside sales, sales development representative, or account coordinator role at a California company, then advancing once you can demonstrate pipeline generation and closed revenue. Certifications from recognized sales training programs can strengthen early-career applications.
Which companies hire business developments in California?
California business development roles are posted by Northern California Small Business Development Center, Resolv.Global, and American Heart Association and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, biotech firms, and enterprise software companies makes it one of the most active states for business development hiring year-round.
Which California cities have the most business development jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most business development openings in California. The distribution reflects where the state's major technology, life sciences, and enterprise software employers are headquartered, with the Bay Area and Los Angeles driving the largest share of postings and San Diego anchoring a strong biotech and defense cluster that generates consistent demand.
Are there remote business development jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 55% of business development openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting that much of the role involves phone, video, and email outreach rather than on-site work. Strategic partnerships and enterprise account development are the sub-areas most likely to offer fully remote arrangements, while roles tied to in-person demos or local territory management tend to require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a business development in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a sales development representative or business development representative role at a California technology or SaaS company, where structured training programs are common and quota attainment opens the door to senior positions quickly. Large California employers including those in the Bay Area and Los Angeles frequently hire candidates from customer success, account management, or marketing coordination backgrounds as lateral moves into business development. Building a portfolio of cold outreach examples and completing a recognized sales methodology certification gives candidates without direct experience a measurable edge in the application process.
Where can I find and apply to business development jobs in California?
You can find and apply to business development jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and target market, and apply directly through each listing.
