Sales Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a sales manager in New York?
The most common path to a sales manager role in New York is several years as a top-performing individual contributor, followed by a formal promotion or lateral move into management. No state-issued license is required, but employers in financial services may expect FINRA Series 7 or Series 63 credentials, depending on the products involved. A bachelor's degree in business or marketing is the standard educational baseline for most New York employers.
How much do sales managers make in New York?
Sales managers in New York earn a median of about $217,640 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $107,670 for the lowest 10% to over $378,910 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire sales managers in New York?
Employers hiring sales managers in New York right now include GameStop, State Farm, and Finish Line, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, global consumer brands, and enterprise technology firms means demand for sales managers is consistent across both corporate headquarters and regional offices.
Which New York cities have the most sales manager jobs?
New York, Albany, and Brooklyn have the most sales manager openings in New York. New York City accounts for the largest share by far, driven by its density of financial services firms, media companies, and Fortune 500 headquarters, while Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand from regional healthcare systems, insurers, and state government contractors that maintain active sales functions.
Are there remote sales manager jobs in New York?
Yes, though the role tends to be more in-person than most, since managing a team and maintaining client relationships often requires regular on-site presence. About 19% of sales manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting employers who allow flexibility for administrative and strategic work. Inside sales management and SaaS or tech-sector roles are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a sales manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to build a strong individual sales record first, then pursue an internal promotion at a large New York employer. Companies like Verizon, MetLife, and Pfizer run structured associate or team-lead programs that prepare high performers for their first management role. Moving from a senior account executive or sales specialist position into a team-lead title is the most common lateral step, and completing a FINRA credential gives candidates an edge in New York's financial services sector.
