How do you become a accounting intern in Montana?

No state-issued license is required for an intern role, but completing intermediate accounting coursework strengthens candidacy significantly. Many Montana firms and agencies formalize internship pipelines through their campus recruiting programs, making early outreach to public accounting firms and corporate finance departments in Billings or Missoula the most reliable path.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Montana?
Employers hiring accounting interns in Montana right now include Town Pump, Albertsons, and Walgreens, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's energy, banking, and healthcare sectors drive consistent intern demand throughout the year, particularly in Billings and Bozeman.
Which Montana cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Bozeman, Missoula, and Billings have the most accounting intern openings in Montana. Billings leads as the state's commercial and energy hub, anchored by regional corporate headquarters and healthcare systems, while Missoula and Bozeman benefit from large university populations and growing professional services sectors that create steady entry-level accounting demand.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Montana?
Yes, and more than many entry-level roles, since accounting work is desk-based and document-driven. About 32% of accounting intern openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the nature of the work. Financial reporting, bookkeeping support, and data reconciliation tasks are the parts of the role most commonly performed remotely, while client-facing or audit fieldwork components typically require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to public accounting firms and regional banks in Billings, Missoula, or Bozeman that run structured summer intern cohorts for students with little beyond coursework. Firms like regional CPA practices and institutions such as Glacier Bancorp actively recruit through University of Montana and Montana State University career fairs. Volunteering with VITA tax preparation clinics in Montana builds hands-on experience and signals initiative to employers. Earning your QuickBooks certification before applying gives a concrete credential edge when experience is thin.
