Accounting Intern Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting intern in Texas?
Accounting intern roles in Texas are open to students currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field at an accredited institution. Texas does not require a state license to work as an intern, but candidates planning to eventually sit for the CPA exam should enroll in a program that meets the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy's 150-semester-hour requirement early, since most structured intern programs at Texas firms serve as a direct pipeline to full-time staff accountant roles.
How much do accounting interns make in Texas?
Accounting interns in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Texas?
Employers hiring accounting interns in Texas right now include Goldman Sachs, Celanese, and Lennox International, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's density of Fortune 500 headquarters and large regional CPA firms means intern programs here tend to be structured, cohort-based, and often lead directly to return offers.
Which Texas cities have the most accounting intern jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most accounting intern openings in Texas. Houston's concentration of energy, petrochemical, and logistics companies drives the largest share of postings, while Dallas attracts volume from financial services, real estate, and corporate headquarters, and Austin's fast-growing tech and startup sector has steadily added intern roles at both established firms and high-growth companies.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Texas?
Yes, and they're more available than in many fields, since accounting work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 17% of accounting intern openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting a shift that accelerated post-pandemic. Tax preparation support, accounts payable processing, and financial data entry tend to be the sub-functions most commonly offered in remote or hybrid formats.
How can I get hired as a accounting intern in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to the structured intern programs that large Texas employers run specifically for students with no prior experience. Firms like the Big Four offices in Houston and Dallas, regional firms such as Whitley Penn and Weaver, and corporate accounting departments at major Texas-based companies regularly recruit freshmen and sophomores for introductory roles. Completing introductory coursework in financial accounting, earning an Excel certification, and joining a student chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs gives candidates a measurable edge over equally inexperienced applicants.
Where can I find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to accounting intern jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search by city or specialty to narrow results to roles that match your background and availability, then apply directly to the listings that fit.
