How do I get a accounting intern job in Madison?
Target Madison's core hiring sectors directly: public accounting firms near the Capitol Square, the university and hospital systems on the near east and west sides, and the insurance and financial services companies clustered on the West Side and in Middleton. A strong GPA and coursework in cost accounting or auditing helps, but candidates who tailor applications to a firm's specific practice area and show familiarity with Wisconsin tax filings stand out most in this market.
Which companies hire accounting interns in Madison?
Companies currently hiring accounting interns in Madison include SVA Certified Public Accountants, S.C., Baker Tilly Canada, and Walgreens, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Madison's mix of regional public accounting firms, large healthcare organizations, and state-chartered financial institutions makes for a diverse range of internship environments across audit, tax, and general ledger functions.
Are there remote accounting intern jobs in Madison?
Yes, though accounting intern roles are less remote-friendly than purely analytical positions because many tasks involve on-site document review, client meetings, or supervised audits. About 41% of accounting intern openings tied to Madison are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remote portion concentrated in bookkeeping support and financial data entry functions for tech-sector employers in the University Avenue corridor.
How can I get a accounting intern job in Madison with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Madison is a campus-connected internship through the University of Wisconsin-Madison's accounting program, which gives direct access to recruiting pipelines at local public accounting firms and corporate employers. Regional firms in the Capitol Square area and mid-sized healthcare organizations on the west side regularly hire first-year students for bookkeeping and accounts payable support roles, where strong spreadsheet skills and attention to detail matter more than prior professional experience.
