Actuarial Associate Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a actuarial associate in California?
The concrete path is to earn a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, or statistics, then begin passing exams administered by the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society while working in an entry-level analyst role. California does not issue a separate state actuarial license, but employers expect candidates to be actively pursuing the ASA or ACAS designation. Maintaining exam progress is effectively the credential that drives hiring and promotion throughout California.
Which companies hire actuarial associates in California?
Employers hiring actuarial associates in California right now include Aaa Texas, Uber, and Gallagher, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's large property and casualty carriers, health plans, and benefits consulting firms consistently maintain the deepest actuarial pipelines in the state.
Which California cities have the most actuarial associate jobs?
Costa Mesa, San Francisco, and Glendale have the most actuarial associate openings in California. Los Angeles dominates because of its dense concentration of property and casualty carriers and health insurers, San Francisco draws demand from employee benefits consulting firms and tech-adjacent insurtech companies, and Sacramento reflects the state government health programs and regional health plan headquarters anchored there.
Are there remote actuarial associate jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Actuarial associate work is almost entirely analytical and computer-based, which makes it well suited to remote arrangements. About 0% of actuarial associate openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Pricing and reserving work tends to be the most fully remote, while regulatory filing roles that require close coordination with California Department of Insurance filings are more likely to be hybrid.
How can I get hired as a actuarial associate in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an actuarial analyst internship or a new-graduate rotational program at a large California health plan or property and casualty insurer. Blue Shield of California, Kaiser Permanente, and regional carriers like CSAA Insurance Group run structured programs for candidates who have passed at least one exam. Adjacent roles in data analytics or underwriting support are common lateral moves. Having two or more exams passed and demonstrated Excel or Python skills gives a California applicant a clear hiring edge without prior actuarial work experience.
Where can I find and apply to actuarial associate jobs in California?
You can find and apply to actuarial associate jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
