Job Description
FBIN’s Connected Products business spans Moen Flo water intelligence devices, Aqualisa connected showers, Yale residential security, Yale PRO commercial access, and related software and cloud platforms. Connected Products represents a high‑growth, strategically important platform with a strong mix of hardware, recurring subscription revenue, and R&D‑driven innovation.
The Director, Finance — Connected Products is designed for a finance leader who enjoys building rather than maintaining. Connected Products is a rapidly growing business that combines the pace and ambiguity of a technology company with the governance, scale, and financial discipline of a Fortune 500 public company.
The ideal candidate brings experience from connected products, software-enabled hardware, IoT, consumer technology, or other innovation-driven businesses and is energized by creating processes, financial frameworks, and operating rhythms where they do not yet exist. They are comfortable navigating competing priorities, influencing executive leaders, and driving execution in a fast-changing environment.
This leader must be equally effective partnering with technology teams, commercial leaders, and senior executives while balancing entrepreneurial thinking with strong financial governance and accountability.
Position location: This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule based in Deerfield, IL. (Flexibility to work from home Mondays and Fridays)
RESPONSIBLIITIES:
Build the Finance Infrastructure
- Create and scale the financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and governance processes needed to support a growing Connected Products business.
- Develop foundational capabilities across revenue forecasting, customer programs and rebates, sourcing and inventory planning, standard costing, and purchase price variance management.
- Establish operating rhythms and performance management routines that improve visibility, accountability, and decision-making.
Partner with Business Leadership
- Serve as the primary finance partner to Connected Water, Connected Security, and Technology leadership.
- Support investment decisions, resource allocation, and growth strategies across hardware, software, subscriptions, and emerging technologies.
- Help leadership prioritize investments and measure returns against business objectives.
Drive Execution in a Dynamic Environment
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual forecasting processes while simultaneously building new capabilities.
- Operate effectively in an environment where priorities evolve, data may be imperfect, and solutions often need to be created rather than inherited.
- Balance long-term capability building with short-term business commitments.
Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team
- Inspire, coach, and develop a team of finance professionals.
- Re-establish engagement, accountability, and growth within the organization.
- Lead through partnership and influence, working alongside the team to develop talent and improve performance.
Influence at the Executive Level
- Deliver clear, concise financial insights to senior leaders and executive stakeholders.
- Partner closely with multiple members of the Connected Products leadership team, balancing varying priorities while maintaining focus on enterprise goals.
- Demonstrate executive presence, sound judgment, and strong communication skills in high-visibility situations.
Qualifications
Required Experience
- 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience.
- Experience supporting connected products, consumer technology, IoT, software-enabled hardware, SaaS, or other technology-driven businesses.
- Demonstrated success building financial capabilities, processes, and reporting structures in high-growth, emerging, or transformational environments.
- Experience operating in organizations that balance entrepreneurial innovation with public company governance and financial discipline.
- Strong business partnership skills with the ability to influence leaders across engineering, product, commercial, operations, and executive teams.
- Proven track record leading and developing teams through change.
- Exceptional communication skills, executive presence, and ability to navigate competing priorities among senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA, CPA, or CMA.
- Experience in smart‑home, security, water management, or IoT industries.
- Familiarity with SaaS, device‑as‑a‑service, and retention/cohort modeling.
- Working knowledge of SAP, Oracle EPM, or similar systems.

Finance Director Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance director in California?
The most direct path begins with earning a CPA license through the California Board of Accountancy, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting California's education and experience requirements. Most hiring managers also expect a bachelor's degree in finance or accounting and an MBA is common at larger organizations. Candidates typically spend several years in senior financial analyst or controller roles before moving into a director-level position.
Which companies hire finance directors in California?
Employers hiring finance directors in California right now include Gilead Sciences, Marriott International, and CRUSOE, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, large healthcare systems, and defense contractors means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than a single dominant sector.
Which California cities have the most finance director jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Foster City have the most finance director openings in California. Los Angeles leads because of its density of entertainment studios, private equity firms, and large hospital networks, while San Francisco and San Jose reflect the Bay Area's deep concentration of technology companies and venture-backed businesses that grow quickly into needing senior finance leadership.
Are there remote finance director jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many senior leadership roles allow. About 57% of finance director openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the planning, analysis, and reporting nature of the work. Responsibilities tied to strategy, FP&A, and investor reporting are most frequently performed remotely, while roles requiring close collaboration with operations or physical audits tend to remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a finance director in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a senior financial analyst or assistant controller role first, then building toward a director title over several years. Large California employers such as Kaiser Permanente, Northrop Grumman, and major California-based university health systems run rotational finance programs and internal leadership development tracks designed for high-performing analysts. Earning a CPA through the California Board of Accountancy and pairing it with demonstrated FP&A ownership on a team gives candidates a measurable edge over peers without a state credential.
Where can I find and apply to finance director jobs in California?
You can find and apply to finance director jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring right now. Find roles that fit your experience and location and apply directly through each listing.
