Finance Director Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance director in Ohio?
Most Ohio employers require a CPA license issued or endorsed by the Accountancy Board of Ohio alongside a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, though an MBA is increasingly standard at larger organizations. From there, the typical path runs through senior accounting, financial analysis, or controller roles before moving into a director seat. Healthcare systems and manufacturers, which dominate Ohio hiring, often promote internally from FP&A manager or assistant controller positions.
Which companies hire finance directors in Ohio?
Employers hiring finance directors in Ohio right now include JPMorganChase, Jobot, and KeyBank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major health systems, and industrial manufacturers means openings appear across a broad range of industries rather than clustering in a single sector.
Which Ohio cities have the most finance director jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Cleveland lead Ohio for finance director openings. Columbus drives volume through its dense cluster of insurance and financial services headquarters, Cleveland draws demand from its large health system and manufacturing base, and Cincinnati benefits from the regional presence of consumer goods and retail corporations with substantial finance leadership needs.
Are there remote finance director jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than many senior roles allow, since finance directors regularly work with data, systems, and remote teams. About 29% of finance director openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Strategic planning, FP&A oversight, and board reporting functions tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring direct oversight of on-site accounting teams are more likely to require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a finance director in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a senior financial analyst or accounting manager role at a large Ohio employer, using that position to build leadership visibility before moving into a director seat. Ohio health systems like OhioHealth and University Hospitals run finance leadership development programs that place high-potential candidates into rotational roles across budgeting, cost accounting, and operations finance. Earning a CPA through the Accountancy Board of Ohio significantly strengthens a candidacy even before reaching the director level.
Where can I find and apply to finance director jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to finance director jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings across industries and metros. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the employers posting them. No profile creation is required to search and apply.
