Accounting Assistant Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting assistant in Ohio?
The most direct path is completing an associate degree in accounting or business from an Ohio community college, such as Columbus State, Cuyahoga Community College, or Sinclair College, followed by applying to entry-level accounts payable or bookkeeping roles. Ohio does not require a state license for accounting assistants. Earning a QuickBooks certification or the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers credential strengthens applications considerably and is widely recognized by Ohio employers.
Which companies hire accounting assistants in Ohio?
Companies currently hiring accounting assistants in Ohio include Honda, Advics, and Skanska, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's large healthcare networks, insurance carriers, and manufacturing headquarters generate especially consistent accounting assistant demand year-round.
Which Ohio cities have the most accounting assistant jobs?
Akron, Cincinnati, and Dayton have the most accounting assistant openings in Ohio. Columbus leads because of its high concentration of insurance, financial services, and corporate headquarters, while Cleveland's healthcare and manufacturing base and Cincinnati's consumer goods and banking sectors sustain steady demand in those metros as well.
Are there remote accounting assistant jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and they're more common than in many fields, since accounting assistant work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 0% of accounting assistant openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to off-site work. Accounts payable processing and data entry functions tend to be the most frequently offered as fully remote positions.
How can I get hired as a accounting assistant in Ohio with little or no experience?
Applying for accounts payable clerk or billing coordinator roles is the most realistic starting point, since Ohio employers in healthcare and manufacturing commonly hire candidates without accounting experience for these adjacent positions. Large Ohio health systems like OhioHealth and Cleveland Clinic run finance associate programs that accept candidates with a two-year degree and no prior accounting work. Completing a QuickBooks certification before applying gives candidates a concrete, verifiable skill that many hiring managers in Ohio treat as a substitute for experience.
Where can I find and apply to accounting assistant jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to accounting assistant jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings updated regularly. Search the listings, identify the roles that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
