Accounting Assistant Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting assistant in Washington?
Most Washington employers hire accounting assistants with at least an associate degree in accounting or a related business field, though many entry-level roles accept candidates with relevant coursework and practical experience. Washington does not require a state-issued license for accounting assistant work, but earning a bookkeeping certificate through a Washington community college such as Bellevue College or South Seattle College strengthens applications. Familiarity with Washington's business and occupation tax structure is a practical advantage employers notice.
Which companies hire accounting assistants in Washington?
Washington accounting assistant roles are posted by ALF, PNW Admin, and Presidio West and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's mix of large technology firms, aerospace contractors, healthcare systems, and state government agencies creates a broad and steady range of accounting assistant openings throughout the year.
Which Washington cities have the most accounting assistant jobs?
Tacoma, Seattle, and Puyallup have the most accounting assistant openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue drive volume through their dense concentration of technology headquarters, healthcare networks, and professional services firms, while Tacoma's role as a regional logistics and public-sector hub sustains consistent demand from government contractors and healthcare employers in the south Puget Sound corridor.
Are there remote accounting assistant jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than many office roles. About 25% of accounting assistant openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on software-based reconciliation and data entry rather than on-site tasks. Accounts payable processing, invoice review, and general ledger support are the functions most commonly offered on a fully remote or hybrid schedule by Washington employers.
How can I get hired as a accounting assistant in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a bookkeeping or accounting certificate at a Washington community college such as Renton Technical College or Pierce College, which several regional employers recognize directly in their job postings. Large Washington healthcare systems like MultiCare and Providence Health, as well as King County government, regularly post entry-level accounting technician and fiscal assistant roles that accept new graduates. Moving laterally from an administrative coordinator or office specialist role within a large Washington employer is another common door-opener, especially when paired with QuickBooks proficiency.
