Accounting Assistant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting assistant in Texas?
The most common path into an accounting assistant role in Texas starts with an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting or business from a Texas community college or university. Texas does not require a state-issued license for accounting assistants. Employers typically look for coursework in financial accounting, payroll, and business math. Completing a bookkeeping certificate through a Texas community college system, such as the Lone Star College or Dallas College network, can strengthen an application considerably.
Which companies hire accounting assistants in Texas?
Employers hiring accounting assistants in Texas right now include RangeWater Real Estate, Applied Industrial Technologies, and Harris County, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, large healthcare systems, and retail headquarters means accounting assistant demand remains steady across multiple industries throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most accounting assistant jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most accounting assistant openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense energy sector and corporate headquarters, while Dallas draws volume from financial services, logistics, and technology firms, and San Antonio's growing healthcare and military-adjacent contracting base supports consistent demand for accounting support staff.
Are there remote accounting assistant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many comparable office roles. About 6% of accounting assistant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and software-driven nature of the work. Accounts payable processing and data entry functions are the most frequently listed as fully remote, while roles requiring physical invoice handling or on-site audit support tend to be in-person.
How can I get hired as a accounting assistant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a bookkeeping certificate from a Texas community college, combined with an internship or part-time role in a small business's finance office. Large Texas employers such as H-E-B and regional hospital systems often post accounts payable clerk and finance coordinator roles that serve as stepping stones. Candidates coming from adjacent positions like administrative assistant, office manager, or retail cashier with cash reconciliation experience have a strong conversion rate into entry accounting assistant roles.
Where can I find and apply to accounting assistant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to accounting assistant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and other markets. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each one.
