Billing Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a billing specialist in Texas?
Most billing specialists in Texas enter the field through an associate degree in business, accounting, or health information technology, paired with a nationally recognized credential such as the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) from the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) from NHA. Texas has no state-issued billing license, but AAPC and NHA credentials are widely expected by Texas healthcare and corporate employers and give candidates a clear edge in competitive markets like Houston and Dallas.
Which companies hire billing specialists in Texas?
Employers hiring billing specialists in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, Driscoll Children's Hospital, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large hospital networks, energy sector headquarters, and regional insurance carriers create steady year-round demand for billing professionals at all experience levels.
Which Texas cities have the most billing specialist jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio have the most billing specialist openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of major hospital systems and energy company headquarters, Dallas follows with a large base of corporate shared-service centers and insurance carriers, and San Antonio sees consistent demand from its military-affiliated healthcare facilities and growing medical district employers.
Are there remote billing specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 26% of billing specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the largely desk-based, software-driven nature of the work. Claims processing, denial management, and accounts receivable follow-up are the functions most commonly offered as fully remote positions by Texas employers.
How can I get hired as a billing specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a billing clerk or patient account representative role at a Texas hospital or large physician group, where on-the-job training is standard. Employers such as HCA Healthcare and CHRISTUS Health regularly hire entry-level candidates from medical billing certificate programs offered at Texas community colleges. Earning the CBCS or CPB credential before applying signals readiness and meaningfully shortens the hiring process for candidates without prior billing experience.
Where can I find and apply to billing specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to billing specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across healthcare, energy, and corporate services. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly to each one.
