CPA Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cpa in Texas?
To become a cpa in Texas, you must earn licensure through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. The path requires completing a qualifying bachelor's degree with sufficient accounting and business coursework, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, and fulfilling the Board's experience requirement under a licensed CPA. Texas also requires ethics coursework approved by the Board before a license is issued.
How much do CPAs make in Texas?
CPAs in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cpas in Texas?
Employers hiring cpas in Texas right now include Jambrina CPA, MBE CPAs, and Regions Bank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, Fortune 500 headquarters, and large regional public accounting firms means consistent demand from both corporate finance teams and client-service practices.
Which Texas cities have the most cpa jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Coppell have the most cpa openings in Texas. Houston leads because of the energy sector and a dense concentration of public accounting firms serving oil and gas clients, while Dallas draws volume from its headquarters-heavy corporate base and financial services industry, and Austin's fast-growing tech sector has added significant demand for cpas in both startup and enterprise finance roles.
Are there remote cpa jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of cpa openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves analysis, reporting, and client communication that translates well to distributed teams. Tax advisory and financial reporting roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while audit engagements often require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a cpa in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff accountant or associate auditor role at a public accounting firm, where Texas-based offices of regional and national firms routinely hire candidates who are still sitting for the CPA exam. Big Four and mid-tier firms in Houston and Dallas run structured new-graduate programs each fall. Candidates who have passed even one exam section and hold a degree in accounting gain a clear edge, and roles like accounts payable analyst or tax associate at corporate employers serve as strong lateral starting points.
Where can I find and apply to cpa jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to cpa jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring across the state. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly.
