Finance And Accounting Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance and accounting professional in Texas?
Most finance and accounting roles in Texas require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. For licensed CPA positions, candidates must pass the Uniform CPA Exam and meet the education and experience requirements set by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, which oversees licensure in the state. Corporate finance roles outside public accounting typically require a degree plus relevant analytical experience, with credentials like the CFA or CMA adding a competitive edge.
How much do finance and accountings make in Texas?
Finance and accountings in Texas earn a median of about $164,860 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $98,250 for the lowest 10% to over $309,290 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire finance and accountings in Texas?
Employers hiring finance and accountings in Texas right now include Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Riveron, and Alvarez & Marsal, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large concentration of energy companies, regional banks, and Fortune 500 headquarters means openings are distributed across a wide range of industries rather than concentrated in a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most finance and accounting jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston account for the most finance and accounting openings in Texas. Houston's energy and petrochemical industry drives a large share of corporate finance and tax roles, Dallas's dense concentration of financial services firms and corporate headquarters sustains steady demand for analysts and controllers, and Austin's growing technology and venture-backed company base has expanded the market for financial planning and startup finance talent.
Are there remote finance and accounting jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. Finance and accounting work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 22% of finance and accounting openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how widely companies have embraced flexible work for analytical roles. Tax, financial analysis, and FP&A positions tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles requiring physical access to records or cash management are more likely to require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a finance and accounting professional in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or rotational associate program, which large Texas employers such as ExxonMobil, USAA, and the major public accounting firms run specifically for new graduates. Roles like accounts payable coordinator, billing analyst, or staff accountant are common first positions that lead into broader finance careers. Earning a CPA candidate status with the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy or pursuing the CMA designation signals commitment and opens doors at mid-size employers who might otherwise screen out applicants without years of experience.
Where can I find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
