Finance And Accounting Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance and accounting professional in Illinois?
Most finance and accounting roles in Illinois require at minimum a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and public accounting positions typically require a CPA license issued through the Illinois Board of Examiners. The CPA path involves passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting Illinois's education and experience requirements. Corporate finance roles often emphasize financial modeling skills and may prefer candidates with an MBA or CFA designation alongside their undergraduate credential.
Which companies hire finance and accountings in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring finance and accountings in Illinois include Robert Half, DLC, and AbbVie, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, regional banks, and large healthcare systems means consistent openings across industries rather than demand driven by a single sector.
Which Illinois cities have the most finance and accounting jobs?
Chicago, Hoffman Estates, and North Chicago account for the largest share of finance and accounting openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it hosts the corporate headquarters of major financial institutions, insurance firms, and industrial companies, while Schaumburg and Peoria contribute meaningful hiring volumes through large employers like Motorola Solutions and Caterpillar whose finance functions are based there.
Are there remote finance and accounting jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 82% of finance and accounting openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how naturally desk-based this work is. Roles in financial analysis, tax preparation, accounts payable, and FP&A tend to be the most remote-eligible, while positions requiring in-person audit fieldwork or treasury operations at a specific headquarters location are more likely to remain on-site.
How can I get hired as a finance and accounting professional in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounts payable associate roles, which Illinois employers routinely fill with recent graduates. Large Illinois employers like Baxter International and Northern Trust run structured new-graduate rotation programs in finance. Community colleges throughout the Chicagoland area also connect graduates with internship pipelines at regional CPA firms. Pursuing CPA exam eligibility early and gaining exposure to QuickBooks or NetSuite gives candidates a measurable edge over others without direct work history.
Where can I find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across industries and experience levels. Search the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match your qualifications and location preferences.
