Financial Consultant Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial consultant in Illinois?
Most financial consultants in Illinois start with a bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field, then obtain the FINRA Series 65 license, which Illinois requires for investment adviser representatives who charge fees for advice. Candidates register through the Illinois Securities Department after passing the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination. Many employers also expect progress toward the CFP designation, which requires completing a CFP Board-registered education program and passing the CFP exam.
Which companies hire financial consultants in Illinois?
Employers hiring financial consultants in Illinois right now include Huron Consulting, First Community Credit Union, and RSM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of insurance carriers, wealth management firms, and corporate headquarters in the Chicago metro means consistent year-round openings across firm sizes.
Which Illinois cities have the most financial consultant jobs?
Chicago, Waterloo, and Belleville have the most financial consultant openings in Illinois. Chicago leads by a wide margin due to its density of asset managers, insurance companies, and corporate treasury departments, while Naperville and Rosemont draw openings from suburban financial services offices and regional branches of large national firms headquartered in or near the metro.
Are there remote financial consultant jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles, since much financial planning and analysis work can be done digitally. About 67% of financial consultant openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of planning and modeling work. Portfolio review, financial plan preparation, and ongoing client communication are the functions most commonly performed fully remotely.
How can I get hired as a financial consultant in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is joining a large Illinois-based firm as a financial analyst associate or client service associate, then moving into a consulting role once licensed. Northern Trust, Allstate, and Baird run structured new-graduate programs in Illinois that combine on-the-job training with support for FINRA licensing. Completing the Series 65 exam before applying gives candidates a measurable edge over other entry-level applicants, and adjacent roles in banking or insurance claims are common lateral starting points.
Where can I find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across Chicago, Naperville, Rosemont, and other hiring markets in the state. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to each one.
