Financial Consultant Jobs in Minnesota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial consultant in Minnesota?
Most financial consultant roles in Minnesota require passing the FINRA Series 65 exam to register as an Investment Adviser Representative, which is administered through FINRA and recognized by the Minnesota Department of Commerce. A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or business is the standard education baseline. Many Minnesota employers also expect candidates to pursue or already hold the Certified Financial Planner designation. Roles tied to securities sales additionally require the Series 7 license.
Which companies hire financial consultants in Minnesota?
Employers hiring financial consultants in Minnesota right now include Optum, RSM, and Mercer, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minnesota's deep base of financial services headquarters, insurance carriers, and large regional banks means hiring is consistent across both independent advisory firms and major institutions.
Which Minnesota cities have the most financial consultant jobs?
The cities with the most financial consultant openings in Minnesota are Eden Prairie, Minneapolis, and Saint Paul. Minneapolis drives the bulk of listings because it anchors the headquarters of Ameriprise Financial, U.S. Bancorp, and Securian Financial, while Saint Paul adds public-sector and nonprofit advisory demand, and Rochester's growth in health system finance and medical industry wealth management explains its presence on the list.
Are there remote financial consultant jobs in Minnesota?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles. About 80% of financial consultant openings tied to Minnesota are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the analytical and planning work travels well over video and digital platforms. Financial planning, investment analysis, and corporate advisory functions are the sub-areas most consistently listed as remote or hybrid in Minnesota postings.
How can I get hired as a financial consultant in Minnesota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a financial advisor associate or client associate program at one of Minnesota's large wealth management firms such as Ameriprise Financial or U.S. Bancorp Investments, both of which run structured new-advisor development tracks in the Twin Cities. Lateral moves from bank teller, loan officer, or insurance agent roles are common because those positions build the client-facing and product knowledge that hiring managers look for. Passing the Series 65 exam before applying gives candidates a concrete edge, and pursuing even the first CFP coursework module signals commitment in a competitive entry-level pool.
Where can I find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Minnesota?
You can find and apply to financial consultant jobs in Minnesota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
