Finance And Accounting Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance and accounting professional in Ohio?
Most Ohio finance and accounting roles require at least a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance from an accredited program. For public accounting and many senior corporate roles, earning a CPA license through the Accountancy Board of Ohio is the standard path, which involves passing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting Ohio's education and experience requirements. Other roles may prioritize certifications like the CMA or CFA depending on the specialty.
Which companies hire finance and accountings in Ohio?
Ohio finance and accounting roles are posted by Deloitte, Fifth Third Bank, and Procter & Gamble and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Ohio's concentration of insurance carriers, regional banks, and large corporate headquarters in Columbus and Cleveland means steady demand from well-established employers across multiple finance and accounting specialties.
Which Ohio cities have the most finance and accounting jobs?
Cincinnati, Columbus, and Cleveland lead Ohio in finance and accounting openings. Columbus drives the largest share of postings thanks to its dense cluster of insurance company headquarters, financial services firms, and large regional employers, while Cleveland's banking sector and Cincinnati's mix of consumer goods and financial services companies generate consistent demand in those metros as well.
Are there remote finance and accounting jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of finance and accounting openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves analysis, reporting, and software-based tasks that translate well to distributed teams. Financial planning and analysis, bookkeeping, and management accounting roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while roles requiring on-site audits or treasury operations are more likely to be in-person.
How can I get hired as a finance and accounting professional in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an accounting associate or staff accountant role at a regional Ohio firm or corporate employer that runs structured rotational or new-graduate programs. Large Ohio-based companies like Nationwide, Progressive, and Fifth Third Bank hire entry-level analysts and accounting assistants directly from Ohio's universities. A completed bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, familiarity with Excel, and progress toward a CPA license give candidates a clear edge when competing for these openings.
