Finance And Accounting Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance and accounting professional in California?
The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, then pursuing CPA licensure through the California Board of Accountancy, which requires completing the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting California's education and experience requirements. For roles that do not require a CPA, employers typically expect a four-year degree in a business discipline and demonstrated experience with financial systems and reporting standards relevant to California's industries.
Which companies hire finance and accountings in California?
Employers hiring finance and accountings in California right now include Robert Half, Vaco, and Marriott International, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's concentration of Fortune 500 technology firms, major entertainment studios, and regional banks means ongoing demand for finance and accounting talent across both corporate and public-sector environments.
Which California cities have the most finance and accounting jobs?
The cities with the most finance and accounting openings in California are San Diego, San Francisco, and Milpitas. The distribution reflects California's economic geography: Los Angeles draws heavily from entertainment, media, and healthcare finance, San Francisco and San Jose are anchored by technology and venture-backed companies, and smaller metros often cluster around regional headquarters or California's large public university and government institutions.
Are there remote finance and accounting jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 58% of finance and accounting openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well analytical and reporting work translates to distributed teams. Roles in financial analysis, management accounting, and tax compliance tend to offer the most remote flexibility, while positions requiring on-site audit work or close collaboration with operations teams are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a finance and accounting professional in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for staff accountant or accounts payable coordinator roles at California's large employers, which regularly hire new graduates and run structured rotational programs. Major California-based firms in technology and financial services, as well as California's community college and UC system administrative offices, hire entry-level finance associates. Sitting for the CPA exam sections early or earning a certified bookkeeper credential gives candidates a measurable edge over other applicants without direct experience.
Where can I find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in California?
You can find and apply to finance and accounting jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search by city, specialty, or seniority level to see roles that match your background, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
