Finance Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance analyst in California?
A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field is the standard entry point for finance analyst roles in California. California does not require a state-issued license to work as a finance analyst, but employers strongly favor candidates who hold or are pursuing the CFA designation. For roles in investment advising or securities, registration with FINRA and registration through the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation may be required depending on specific duties.
How much do finance analysts make in California?
Finance analysts in California earn a median of about $109,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $72,840 for the lowest 10% to over $198,280 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire finance analysts in California?
Employers hiring finance analysts in California right now include Apple, Amazon, and Alvarez & Marsal, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major financial institutions, and large healthcare systems means demand is consistent across multiple sectors rather than limited to one industry.
Which California cities have the most finance analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego lead California for finance analyst openings. San Francisco and San Jose reflect the Bay Area's density of technology company headquarters and venture-backed firms that maintain large corporate finance functions, while Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment studios, private equity firms, and the region's diverse mid-market and Fortune 500 employer base.
Are there remote finance analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Finance analyst work is largely desk-based and data-driven, which makes it well suited to remote arrangements. About 26% of finance analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting broad adoption across technology and financial services employers. FP&A and corporate reporting roles tend to be the most remote-friendly, while treasury and deal-support positions more often require an in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a finance analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a financial analyst rotational program or corporate finance associate role at a large California employer. Companies like Apple, Wells Fargo, and Kaiser Permanente run structured new-graduate programs that place candidates in finance analyst tracks without requiring prior full-time experience. Adjacent roles such as accounting associate, business operations coordinator, or data analyst at a California technology or healthcare employer are common lateral moves. A completed CFA Level I exam or a strong financial modeling portfolio gives early-career candidates a tangible edge in competitive California markets.
Where can I find and apply to finance analyst jobs in California?
You can find and apply to finance analyst jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listing.
