Technical Accounting Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical accounting manager in Texas?
The concrete path in Texas starts with obtaining a CPA license through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, which requires meeting the education hour requirements, passing the Uniform CPA Exam, and completing qualifying work experience. Most Texas employers expect candidates to have spent several years in public accounting or a large corporate accounting function before moving into a manager role. A background in audit or financial reporting, paired with an active Texas CPA, is the credential that opens the most doors here.
How much do technical accounting managers make in Texas?
Technical accounting managers in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical accounting managers in Texas?
Employers hiring technical accounting managers in Texas right now include CohnReznick, Keurig Dr Pepper, and University Medical Center of El Paso, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's deep base of energy majors, Fortune 500 headquarters, and regional bank holding companies means sustained demand for managers who can handle complex GAAP research and external reporting.
Which Texas cities have the most technical accounting manager jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most technical accounting manager openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its high concentration of energy and petrochemical company headquarters that require extensive technical accounting for complex financial instruments and joint ventures, while Dallas and Austin drive volume through financial services firms, large technology companies, and the regional corporate offices that have relocated there over the past decade.
Are there remote technical accounting manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many comparable management roles, because the core work involves researching accounting standards, drafting memos, and reviewing financial models rather than managing physical operations. About 71% of technical accounting manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and documentation-heavy parts of the job translate to distributed work. The tasks most likely to remain fully on-site are those tied to close coordination with external auditors or executive leadership during quarterly and annual reporting cycles.
How can I get hired as a technical accounting manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as a senior accountant or accounting analyst in a large Texas corporate accounting team or a Big Four or regional public accounting firm with a strong Houston or Dallas presence, then building experience specifically in technical accounting research and memo writing. Energy companies such as those headquartered in Houston frequently hire accounting associates into rotational finance programs that include a technical accounting component. Passing the CPA exam and gaining exposure to ASC topics through public audit work is the credential that most often converts an associate-level role into a manager opportunity within three to five years.
Where can I find and apply to technical accounting manager jobs in Texas?
