Insurance Agent Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a insurance agent in Texas?
To become a licensed insurance agent in Texas you must pass a state licensing exam administered through the Texas Department of Insurance and submit an application for a producer license in your chosen line of authority, such as Property and Casualty or Life, Accident, and Health. Most candidates prepare through an approved pre-licensing education course before sitting for the exam. No college degree is required to obtain the license, though many employers prefer it.
Which companies hire insurance agents in Texas?
Employers hiring insurance agents in Texas right now include A-MAX Insurance, Farmers Insurance, and GEICO, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's size and its high concentration of small businesses, energy firms, and agricultural operations means carriers and independent agencies alike maintain substantial local agent forces across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most insurance agent jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas account for the most insurance agent openings in Texas. Houston's dominant energy and maritime industries generate heavy commercial lines demand, Dallas anchors a large regional financial and corporate services market that drives group benefits and commercial property volume, and San Antonio's military, healthcare, and government-contractor base supports strong life, health, and personal lines hiring.
Are there remote insurance agent jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many client-facing roles, because licensed agents can quote, bind, and service policies entirely by phone and digital platforms. About 7% of insurance agent openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how effectively the work translates to a distributed model. Roles focused on inbound sales, renewals, and account servicing are the most likely to be fully remote.
How can I get hired as a insurance agent in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is obtaining your Texas Department of Insurance producer license first, which signals commitment and removes a common hiring barrier even before your first interview. Large carriers such as State Farm and USAA run structured new-agent and associate programs at their Texas operations that are designed specifically for candidates without prior insurance experience. Customer service representatives, financial service associates, and retail banking roles provide transferable skills that Texas agencies frequently accept as a substitute for direct insurance experience.
Where can I find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to insurance agent jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your license type, experience level, and preferred location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
