Auditor Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a auditor in Texas?
To become a licensed auditor in Texas, you typically pursue CPA licensure through the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy, which requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting coursework, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, and completing the required experience hours under a licensed CPA. For internal audit roles, a Certified Internal Auditor credential from the Institute of Internal Auditors is a widely recognized alternative path that does not require CPA licensure.
How much do auditors make in Texas?
Auditors in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire auditors in Texas?
Employers hiring auditors in Texas right now include CHRISTUS Health, American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), and Goldman Sachs, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy corporations, financial services firms, and large healthcare systems means auditor demand is distributed across a wide range of industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most auditor jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most auditor openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its density of energy headquarters, financial institutions, and publicly traded companies, while Dallas draws heavily from its large corporate and professional services sector, and Austin's growing technology and state government presence creates steady demand for compliance and IT audit specialists.
Are there remote auditor jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 18% of auditor openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based, document-driven nature of audit work. IT audit and internal audit roles at large corporate employers are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements, while public accounting and government audit positions typically require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a auditor in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to staff auditor or audit associate roles at regional CPA firms or large employers with structured programs, such as the Big Four firms operating out of Houston and Dallas, which run formal campus recruiting cycles for candidates with a qualifying accounting degree. Texas state agencies, including the Texas State Auditor's Office and the Texas Comptroller's office, also hire entry-level auditors. Sitting for the CPA exam early, even before completing the experience requirement, signals commitment and gives candidates a meaningful edge over applicants who have not started the process.
