Accountant Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an accountant in Texas?
Most accountant roles in Texas require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers prefer or require a CPA license issued by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. To earn the Texas CPA, candidates must meet the board's education requirements, pass all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, and complete the required hours of qualifying work experience. Staff and bookkeeping roles may be accessible without a CPA, but licensing strengthens candidacy significantly in this market.
How much do accountants make in Texas?
Accountants in Texas earn a median of about $80,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,380 for the lowest 10% to over $132,040 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accountants in Texas?
Employers hiring accountants in Texas right now include Goldman Sachs, KPMG, and WEAVER, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, large healthcare systems, and Fortune 500 headquarters means accounting talent is in demand across a wide range of industries and company sizes.
Which Texas cities have the most accountant jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Austin have the most accountant openings in Texas. Houston's energy and petrochemical sector, Dallas's concentration of financial services firms and corporate headquarters, and Austin's fast-growing tech and government sectors each create sustained demand for accounting professionals at all levels.
Are there remote accountant jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 19% of accountant openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that accounting work is largely desk-based and documentation-driven. Roles in financial reporting, tax compliance, and accounts payable tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring on-site access to physical records or direct plant-level oversight are more likely to be in-person.
How can I get hired as an accountant in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff accountant or accounts payable associate role, which Texas employers routinely open to recent graduates. Large Texas-based organizations including hospital systems, state agencies, and energy companies run new-graduate rotational programs or structured entry cohorts that provide on-the-job training. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in bookkeeping, payroll administration, or finance operations have a strong footing, and completing the CPA exam sections early, even before full licensure, signals commitment and gives a clear edge in a competitive hiring pool.
Where can I find and apply to accountant jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to accountant jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
