Which New York cities have the most accountant jobs?

The city accounts for the large majority of postings, driven by its investment banks, public accounting firms, and corporate finance teams, while upstate metros add roles in healthcare, government, and manufacturing.
Are there remote accountant jobs in New York?
Yes. About 39% of New York accountant openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, a higher share than many fields as accounting work has shifted to distributed teams. Financial reporting, bookkeeping, and accounts payable roles offer the most remote flexibility, while audit and finance-leadership roles lean on-site.

Entry-level staff accountant and accounts payable roles are the most accessible, and a degree in accounting or finance with coursework in audit, tax, and financial reporting is usually enough to start. Internships with New York public accounting firms or corporate finance teams are the strongest foot in the door, and many New York City employers hire recent graduates directly into these roles.
