Financial Planning And Analysis Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial planning and analysis professional in New York?
A bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field is the standard entry point, and most New York employers expect at least some exposure to financial modeling and variance analysis. There is no state-issued license specific to FP&A work in New York, but professional credentials like the CFA or CPA carry real weight in the city's financial services and corporate sector. Many analysts build their foundations in public accounting, investment banking, or corporate finance before moving into dedicated FP&A roles.
Which companies hire financial planning and analysis professionals in New York?
Employers hiring financial planning and analysis professionals in New York right now include JetBlue, Blue Nile, and Morgan Stanley, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's dense concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and major financial institutions means FP&A teams here tend to be larger and more specialized than in most other states.
Which New York cities have the most financial planning and analysis jobs?
The cities with the most financial planning and analysis openings in New York are New York, Ithaca, and Tarrytown. New York City dominates because of its extraordinary concentration of financial services firms, global corporate headquarters, and media and technology companies, while suburban metros like White Plains attract FP&A roles tied to large consumer goods and healthcare companies that have headquartered operations just outside the city.
Are there remote financial planning and analysis jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of financial planning and analysis openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well-suited the role's modeling, reporting, and forecasting work is for distributed teams. Strategic finance and business partnering roles at technology and media companies tend to offer the most scheduling flexibility, while roles embedded within trading floors or closely tied to executive leadership usually require in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial planning and analysis professional in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a rotational finance program at a large New York employer, with banks like Citigroup and insurance companies like MetLife running structured analyst programs designed specifically for recent graduates. Lateral moves from roles in accounting, financial reporting, or budget coordination are also common on-ramps, as those positions build the variance analysis and forecasting fundamentals FP&A teams look for. Earning your CPA while in an entry-level accounting role at a Big Four firm with a strong New York presence is one of the most proven ways to position for an FP&A move within two to three years.
Where can I find and apply to financial planning and analysis jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to financial planning and analysis jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that interest you.
