Tips for Your Investment Banking Job Search
Tailor your resume to deal experience
Investment banking resumes are screened for transaction exposure first. List deals you supported with your specific role, the deal size, and outcome. Generic finance experience without deal context gets filtered out before a recruiter reads past the first page.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists investment banking openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target firms by coverage group fit
Investment banks hire by sector coverage group, such as healthcare, technology, or industrials. Match your prior internship or deal sector to the group you apply to. A mismatched application to a coverage group with no relevant background rarely advances past the screen.
Prepare a live deal sheet before interviews
Interviewers at every level expect you to walk through at least one transaction in detail. Before any first-round call, prepare a one-page deal sheet covering your role, the structure, the strategic rationale, and what you would have done differently.
Quantify your modeling skills precisely
Don't just list Excel or financial modeling as skills. Name the specific model types you've built, such as three-statement, LBO, or DCF, and the context. Analysts who can articulate their modeling depth in an interview screen faster than those who use vague language.
Follow up within 48 hours after each interview
Investment banking hiring cycles move quickly and decisions are often made within days. Send a specific, brief follow-up email that references one technical topic from the interview. Generic thank-you notes are ignored, but a pointed follow-up signals engagement and recall.
Investment Banking Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most investment bankings?
The companies hiring the most investment bankings right now include Bank of America, JPMorganChase, and Goldman Sachs, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Openings are spread across bulge-bracket institutions, middle-market advisory firms, and independent boutiques.
How many investment banking jobs are remote?
About 22% of investment banking openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than most finance roles given the client-facing and deal-intensive nature of the work. Roles in equity research coverage and certain back-office capital markets functions tend to have the highest share of hybrid arrangements compared to front-office advisory positions.
How do you become a investment banking?
Start with a finance, economics, or accounting degree and build technical foundations in financial modeling and accounting early. Secure internships at a bank, advisory boutique, or private equity firm during school to build deal exposure. Pass the Series 79 and Series 63 exams once hired. Analysts who move up typically develop a sector specialty and build a client network over several years of deal execution.
How do you get hired in investment banking with little experience?
Focus on demonstrating technical competency rather than deal history. Complete a recognized financial modeling certification, build sample models using publicly available filings, and prepare a concise deal commentary on a recent transaction to bring to interviews. Boutique advisory firms and regional banks hire more entry-level candidates than bulge brackets and are a practical starting point before moving to larger institutions.
What does the investment banking interview process look like?
Most investment banking interview processes begin with a phone or video screen focused on your resume and motivation for the role, followed by a technical round covering accounting, valuation, and modeling questions. Candidates at the analyst and associate level typically complete a case study or modeling test. Final rounds involve multiple back-to-back interviews with senior bankers assessing both technical depth and cultural fit before an offer is extended.
Where can I find and apply to investment banking jobs?
You can find and apply to investment banking jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from firms across the United States. Search by role type, location, or seniority level to narrow down the listings that match your background, then apply directly to each opening that fits without leaving the platform.
