Tips for Your Finance Assistant Job Search
Tailor your resume to the posting
Finance assistant job descriptions vary significantly by industry. A role at a hospital system emphasizes grant tracking and compliance, while a corporate role prioritizes reconciliations and ERP systems. Mirror the exact terminology in each posting so your resume clears applicant tracking filters.
Highlight your software proficiency clearly
Employers shortlist candidates who name the specific tools they've used. List the exact versions or modules you know, like QuickBooks Online versus Desktop, or SAP versus Oracle Financials, rather than writing 'proficient in accounting software.'
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists finance assistant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target openings that match your AP or AR experience
Many finance assistant roles are specialized in either accounts payable or accounts receivable, not both. Applying to openings that match your stronger side makes your resume more competitive and reduces the chance of being screened out for gaps.
Prepare for a practical skills assessment
Many finance assistant interviews include a short Excel or data-entry test. Practice reconciling a small dataset with intentional errors, formatting a budget summary, and using pivot tables, since these are the tasks you'll most often be assessed on.
Follow up after submitting your application
Finance departments are small and hiring managers notice candidates who follow up once, professionally, within five to seven business days. A brief note reaffirming your interest and availability for an interview keeps your application visible without being intrusive.
Finance Assistant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most finance assistants?
The companies hiring the most finance assistants right now include Republic Finance, State Street, and Rangewater Real Estate, with the largest share of openings in New York, Texas, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is consistent across healthcare systems, universities, and mid-size corporate employers.
How many finance assistant jobs are remote?
About 16% of finance assistant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than many other finance roles because the work often involves handling physical documents, checks, and in-person coordination with vendors. Accounts payable and financial reporting sub-functions tend to have the highest share of remote-eligible postings.
How do you become a finance assistant?
Start by completing an associate or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. Build hands-on proficiency in Excel and at least one accounting software platform. An internship or entry-level bookkeeping role strengthens your application significantly. Certifications like the Accounts Payable Specialist credential from the American Payroll Association can also help you stand out when competing for your first full-time position.
Can you get hired as a finance assistant with no experience?
Yes, entry-level finance assistant roles exist specifically for candidates without formal work history. Employers hiring at that level prioritize strong Excel skills, accuracy, and a relevant degree or coursework. Internship experience, even unpaid, and completing a community college accounting course both signal readiness. Applying to openings that explicitly list 'entry-level' or 'no experience required' improves your chances considerably.
What does the finance assistant interview process look like?
Most finance assistant interviews involve an initial phone screen with HR, followed by one or two rounds with the hiring manager or finance team lead. Expect questions about how you handle reconciliation errors, your experience with specific software, and your process for meeting deadlines. Many employers also include a short practical test covering Excel or data entry accuracy before or during the in-person round.
Where can I find and apply to finance assistant jobs?
You can find and apply to finance assistant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and location, then apply directly to each listing. New postings are added regularly, so checking back frequently gives you access to the most current openings.
