Tips for Your Vice President Of Finance Job Search
Quantify capital stewardship on your resume
VP-level finance hiring managers want to see the size of budgets you managed, the scale of cost reductions you drove, and the revenue impact of decisions you owned. Replace vague language with dollar-denominated outcomes tied to your specific role.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists vice president of finance openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your resume to each company's capital structure
A PE-backed company wants a VP who can manage debt covenants and work through an exit. A public company wants someone fluent in SEC reporting and investor relations. Read the filing history or ownership context before you customize your resume.
Target job listings by reporting line
Some vice president of finance roles report to the CFO and are execution-heavy. Others report to the CEO at smaller companies and carry a strategic mandate. Filter your search by company size to find the reporting structure that matches your goals.
Prepare a deal or initiative narrative for interviews
Interviewers at the VP level will ask you to walk through a specific transaction, restructuring, or capital allocation decision you led. Have one story ready that covers the problem, your analysis, the decision made, and the measurable result.
Negotiate title, scope, and equity alongside base
At the VP level, equity, bonus structure, and reporting authority often vary more than base compensation between offers. Ask specifically about LTIP participation, budget ownership, and whether the role has a seat at the leadership table before accepting.
Vice President Of Finance Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most vice president of finances?
The companies hiring the most vice president of finances right now include Citi, Jobot, and JPMorganChase, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is strongest in industries undergoing growth, M&A activity, or financial restructuring.
How many vice president of finance jobs are remote?
About 66% of vice president of finance openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with the highest remote availability in FP&A and corporate finance roles at technology companies. Treasury, controllership, and PE-backed VP roles more often require on-site presence due to the sensitivity of financial operations and board-level interaction.
How do you become a vice president of finance?
Most vice presidents of finance move up through director or senior director roles after building depth in FP&A, accounting, or corporate finance. Earning a CPA or CFA accelerates promotion, and leading a high-visibility project such as a system implementation, audit, or capital raise is often the catalyst. At smaller companies, the path can be faster if you take on cross-functional ownership early.
Can you get a vice president of finance role with limited leadership experience?
It's uncommon to land a VP title without at least some direct team leadership, but smaller companies and startups sometimes hire finance managers into VP roles when the candidate has deep technical expertise and has owned a critical function end-to-end. Building a visible record on high-stakes deliverables, such as a Series B close or a first external audit, can offset a shorter management history.
What does the vice president of finance interview process look like?
The process typically runs three to five rounds. An initial call with HR or a recruiter is followed by a working session with the CFO or CEO where you walk through your financial leadership experience. Later rounds often include a case study, a financial model review, or a presentation to an executive panel. References from board members or prior CFOs carry significant weight at this level.
Where can I find and apply to vice president of finance jobs?
You can find and apply to vice president of finance jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your background and apply directly to each one that fits.
