Tips for Your Claims Specialist Job Search
Tailor your resume to claim type
Recruiters scan for the specific claim type you've handled. Label your experience precisely, whether property and casualty, auto, liability, or medical. A resume that leads with your claim specialty gets past screeners faster than one that lists generic insurance experience.
List adjuster licenses by state
Many postings require a resident or non-resident adjuster license for specific states. Put every active license you hold in a dedicated section near the top of your resume so hiring managers don't have to dig for compliance credentials.
Filter openings by claims management system
Employers hiring for claims roles almost always specify the platform they use, such as Guidewire, Duck Creek, or Majesco. Search for openings that name a system you already know to skip the longest part of the learning curve on day one.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists claims specialist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match your claim type and experience level and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for scenario-based interview questions
Interviewers test how you handle coverage disputes, subrogation situations, or claimant pushback. Practice walking through a real case where you denied or reduced a claim and had to explain your reasoning clearly and within policy guidelines.
Negotiate using your closing ratio data
When a job offer comes, bring concrete metrics: average days to close, denial accuracy rate, or caseload volume. Claims managers respond to quantified efficiency because it directly affects reserve accuracy and departmental liability.
Claims Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most claims specialists?
The companies hiring the most claims specialists right now include Liberty Mutual Insurance, CorVel Corporation, and The Hartford, with the largest share of openings in Texas, New York, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Carrier-side roles at large insurers tend to dominate volume, but third-party administrators and self-insured employers also post consistently.
How many claims specialist jobs are remote?
About 67% of claims specialist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with availability varying significantly by claim type. Medical claims and long-term disability roles tend to offer the highest share of remote work, while field-adjuster and auto appraisal positions almost always require on-site or travel-based work.
How do you become a claims specialist?
Start with a degree in business, finance, or a related field, then apply for entry-level claims roles such as claims assistant or examiner trainee at an insurer or third-party administrator. Earn your state adjuster license for the line of business you want to work in, then build toward an industry designation like the AIC or CPCU to move into senior and specialized roles.
How do you get hired as a claims specialist with little experience?
Target trainee or claims assistant postings, which are structured for candidates without a full claims background. Highlight transferable skills like policy analysis, customer conflict resolution, medical billing, or paralegal work. Obtaining a state adjuster license before you apply signals commitment and removes a common hiring barrier, even without hands-on claims history behind it.
What does the claims specialist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes include an initial phone screen with a recruiter, followed by one or two rounds with the claims manager and a team lead. Expect scenario questions about coverage decisions, claimant communication, and how you handle disputed claims. Some employers add a short written exercise where you review a mock claim file and summarize your coverage position before the final round.
Where can I find and apply to claims specialist jobs?
You can find and apply to claims specialist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search roles by claim type, location, or experience level, then apply directly to each listing that fits your background. No intermediary steps are needed between finding a role and submitting your application.
