Tips for Your Real Estate Appraiser Job Search
Highlight your state license level clearly
Appraisal job listings filter hard on credential tier, so your resume needs to call out your exact license level, whether trainee, licensed, certified residential, or certified general, in the header or summary. Burying it in a certifications section costs you callbacks.
Quantify your appraisal volume and property types
Hiring managers want to know how many reports you complete per month and what property types you've covered. Replace vague claims with specifics: single-family, multifamily, mixed-use, industrial, or vacant land, along with your report turnaround time.
Target listings that match your scope of practice
A certified general license opens commercial roles, but applying to those with only a certified residential credential wastes everyone's time. Read the scope-of-work requirements carefully before applying so your credentials align with what the role legally requires.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists real estate appraiser openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for a sample appraisal walkthrough
Many interviewers ask you to talk through a recent assignment, including how you selected comparables, reconciled value, and handled any unusual conditions. Have a clean, well-reasoned example ready that shows your methodology, not just your conclusion.
Negotiate your fee split or signing bonus separately
At fee shops and AMC-affiliated firms, base pay and per-report splits are often negotiated independently. Know your average report volume before the offer conversation so you can evaluate a split structure against a straight salary offer accurately.
Real Estate Appraiser Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most real estate appraisers?
The companies hiring the most real estate appraisers right now include Newmark, Cushman & Wakefield, and Class Valuation, with the largest share of openings in Wisconsin, Florida, and North Dakota, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand tends to be concentrated at appraisal management companies, regional banks, and government assessment offices.
How many real estate appraiser jobs are remote?
About 23% of real estate appraiser openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though most roles still require physical property inspections. Review and desk appraisal roles, which involve reassessing completed reports or working with desktop valuation models, are the sub-specialty most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How do you become a real estate appraiser?
You start by completing your state's required appraisal education hours, then log supervised field hours under a certified appraiser to qualify for the trainee license. After meeting your state's hour requirements and passing the national AQB exam, you can apply for a licensed or certified credential, which determines the property types and complexity of assignments you can take on independently.
Can you get hired as a real estate appraiser with little experience?
Yes, entry-level candidates can be hired as appraiser trainees, which is a formal supervised role that counts toward your licensing hours. Firms that run high-volume residential practices or have in-house review staff often recruit trainees directly, particularly if you have a background in real estate sales, mortgage lending, or construction, since property familiarity shortens the learning curve considerably.
What does the real estate appraiser interview process look like?
Most interviews start with a phone screen focused on your license level, software experience, and geographic coverage area. A follow-up interview typically includes a methodology walkthrough where you explain how you approach a valuation assignment, select comparables, and handle challenging property types. Some firms ask you to review a sample report and identify issues before or during the final round.
Where can I find and apply to real estate appraiser jobs?
You can find and apply to real estate appraiser jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your license level, property type experience, and preferred location, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
