Tips for Your Banker Job Search
Tailor your resume to the banking tier
Retail banking resumes should highlight customer volume metrics and cross-sell results, while commercial banker resumes need loan portfolio size and credit analysis experience front and center. Hiring managers in each tier look for different proof points, so swap them out for every application.
Earn a relevant banking certification first
Certifications like the Certified Lender Business Banker or Chartered Financial Analyst signal commitment to the field and are specifically requested in mid-level commercial and investment banking postings. Listing one in progress still counts and often moves your resume past an initial screen.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists banker openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by banking segment
Commercial, retail, private, and investment banking are distinct career tracks with different skills and interview styles. Searching by segment rather than just the title 'banker' helps you target openings where your specific experience matches, rather than landing in stacks that do not fit.
Prepare for a credit or case-based interview round
Many commercial and investment banking interviews include a credit analysis exercise, a deal walk-through, or a loan scenario. Practice building a simple credit memo or walking through a past client situation so the technical round does not catch you off guard.
Negotiate using your book of business data
When an offer comes in, the most effective counter for relationship manager and commercial banker roles is a documented book size or loan origination volume. Concrete numbers from your current portfolio give you a factual basis for the ask that hiring managers can defend internally.
Banker Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most bankers?
The companies hiring the most bankers right now include Banner Health, JPMorganChase, and Truist, with the largest share of openings in Arizona, California, and Florida, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Regional and community banks also account for a significant share of open positions across the country.
How many banker jobs are remote?
About 5% of banker openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which is lower than many other finance roles given the client-facing nature of most banking positions. Remote opportunities are most common in credit analysis, underwriting, and commercial portfolio management, where daily in-person client contact is not required.
How do you become a banker?
Start with a bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or accounting, as most entry-level banking roles require one. From there, apply to teller, analyst, or associate programs at retail or commercial banks to build foundational experience. As you advance, earning relevant licenses or certifications and developing a client portfolio moves you into relationship manager and senior banker roles.
Can you get hired as a banker with little or no experience?
Yes, retail banks and credit unions regularly hire tellers and personal banker associates with no prior banking experience, prioritizing customer service skills and a clean background check. Internships at community banks or credit unions are a strong way in, and many institutions promote internally, so an entry teller role can lead to a commercial banking path within a few years.
What does the banker interview process look like?
Most banking interviews start with a phone screen focused on your background and motivation, followed by one or two in-person or video rounds. Commercial and investment banking roles often include a technical round with a credit scenario or case exercise. Final rounds for senior positions may involve meeting a branch or regional manager and discussing your client acquisition approach or portfolio history.
Where can I find and apply to banker jobs?
You can find and apply to banker jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each one that fits your background.
