Finance Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance associate in New York?
Most finance associate roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field from an accredited institution. Client-facing or securities-related positions typically require passing the FINRA Series 7 and Series 63 exams, with registration processed through a sponsoring employer. New York's major banks and asset managers recruit heavily from local universities including NYU Stern, Columbia Business School, and Fordham's Gabelli School, making campus recruiting a well-worn entry path.
Which companies hire finance associates in New York?
Employers hiring finance associates in New York right now include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's density of global bank headquarters, private equity firms, and asset managers means hiring is consistent year-round rather than concentrated in seasonal cycles.
Which New York cities have the most finance associate jobs?
New York, New York City, and Buffalo have the most finance associate openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the headquarters of major Wall Street banks, global asset managers, and private equity firms, while White Plains and the Stamford corridor attract openings from regional offices and mid-size financial services firms that operate just outside Manhattan.
Are there remote finance associate jobs in New York?
Yes, though they are less common than in purely analytical tech roles, since many finance associate positions involve in-person deal work, client meetings, or trading floor presence. About 24% of finance associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more prevalent than fully remote. Fund accounting, financial reporting, and FP&A roles tend to offer the most remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a finance associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a structured analyst program at a major New York bank or asset manager, such as the two-year analyst rotations run by firms like JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, and Morgan Stanley. Candidates without direct experience often transition from adjacent roles in accounting, audit, or financial operations. Completing CFA Level I or earning a CPA credential significantly strengthens a profile, as does experience with Excel modeling or internships completed through NYU, Columbia, or Fordham's finance programs.
Where can I find and apply to finance associate jobs in New York?
