Finance Associate Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a finance associate in Virginia?
Most Virginia employers require a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or economics as the baseline for a finance associate role. Virginia does not require a state-issued license to work as a finance associate, but candidates pursuing securities-related work should complete FINRA registration through their sponsoring employer. For roles tied to government contracting, familiarity with federal budget frameworks strengthens a candidacy considerably. Progress toward a CPA or CFA credential distinguishes applicants at larger Virginia firms.
Which companies hire finance associates in Virginia?
Virginia finance associate roles are posted by L3Harris, Capital One, and Hunton Andrews Kurth and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Northern Virginia's concentration of defense contractors and financial institutions makes it one of the most active markets in the mid-Atlantic region for this role.
Which Virginia cities have the most finance associate jobs?
Richmond, Reston, and Lynchburg account for the largest share of finance associate openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia dominates because of the dense cluster of federal agencies, defense contractors, and financial services headquarters there, while Richmond draws openings through its banking and insurance sector and Virginia Beach reflects demand from military-adjacent finance operations and regional corporate offices.
Are there remote finance associate jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles. About 33% of finance associate openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well the analytical and reporting work translates to distributed teams. Financial modeling, FP&A reporting, and budget analysis are the functions most commonly offered on a remote or hybrid basis by Virginia employers.
How can I get hired as a finance associate in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a rotational finance program or new-graduate analyst role at one of Virginia's large employers. Capital One, Freddie Mac, and Booz Allen Hamilton each run structured entry-level finance programs in Virginia that recruit recent graduates. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as accounting assistant, financial operations coordinator, or budget analyst intern have a strong on-ramp. Completing an Excel or financial modeling certification and pursuing CPA candidacy early gives applicants a measurable edge in Virginia hiring pools.
Where can I find and apply to finance associate jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to finance associate jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and location, and apply directly through each posting.
