Financial Services Representative Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial services representative in Virginia?
Most Virginia employers require a combination of education and licensure before hiring. A bachelor's degree in finance, business, or economics is the standard educational baseline. On the securities side, candidates must pass FINRA-administered exams such as the Series 6 or Series 7, which require employer sponsorship. For roles involving insurance products, candidates must obtain a Virginia insurance producer license through the State Corporation Commission's Bureau of Insurance, which involves pre-licensing education and a state exam.
Which companies hire financial services representatives in Virginia?
Virginia financial services representative roles are posted by Carter Bank, State Farm, and Inova Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's dense mix of federal credit unions, regional banks, insurance carriers, and independent advisory firms means openings appear across a wide range of employer sizes and business models.
Which Virginia cities have the most financial services representative jobs?
Charlottesville, Virginia, and Floyd have the most financial services representative openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's proximity to federal agencies and a large contractor workforce drives strong demand for retirement and benefits-focused roles, while Richmond anchors Virginia's banking and insurance headquarters market, and Virginia Beach reflects steady consumer financial services demand tied to its large military and civilian population.
Are there remote financial services representative jobs in Virginia?
Yes, though they represent a smaller share of openings than in purely analytical or back-office finance roles, since client-facing and sales responsibilities often require in-person presence. About 67% of financial services representative openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting employer variation in how they structure client contact. Back-office support, telephone-based service, and insurance underwriting coordination are the sub-functions most frequently offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a financial services representative in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a bank branch associate or customer service representative role, which large Virginia retail banks and credit unions use as a pipeline for licensed financial services staff. Navy Federal Credit Union, Capital One, and regional institutions like Atlantic Union Bank run structured onboarding programs that include sponsorship for FINRA licensing exams. Candidates who arrive with a Virginia insurance producer license or have completed FINRA exam prep independently stand out in competitive applicant pools and can move into sales or advisory tracks faster.
