Tax Analyst Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax analyst in Virginia?
Most tax analyst roles in Virginia require a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field, and many employers expect candidates to hold or be actively pursuing a CPA license issued through the Virginia Board of Accountancy. The CPA path requires passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam and meeting Virginia's education and experience requirements. Candidates focused on corporate tax roles often supplement with courses in federal taxation, multistate compliance, and accounting software.
Which companies hire tax analysts in Virginia?
Employers hiring tax analysts in Virginia right now include CarMax, Amazon, and Amentum, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Virginia's concentration of federal contractors, financial institutions, and Fortune 500 headquarters in the Northern Virginia and Richmond corridors means corporate tax and compliance roles are consistently available across a wide range of large employers.
Which Virginia cities have the most tax analyst jobs?
Richmond, Arlington, and Chantilly have the most tax analyst openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's density of federal contractors and technology firms drives the bulk of postings, Richmond's role as a corporate and financial services hub anchors demand in the central region, and the Hampton Roads area adds steady volume through its large defense and government contractor presence.
Are there remote tax analyst jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax analyst work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 0% of tax analyst openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly this flexibility has been adopted in corporate finance. Federal and state tax compliance and tax provision work are the functions most commonly offered on a fully remote basis.
How can I get hired as a tax analyst in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to staff tax associate or tax coordinator roles at large Virginia-based employers in the Northern Virginia technology corridor or Richmond financial services sector. Capital One, Booz Allen Hamilton, and regional accounting firms in Richmond and McLean regularly hire new graduates into rotational or development programs that build corporate tax skills from scratch. A completed accounting degree and progress toward the CPA exam through the Virginia Board of Accountancy carry the most weight. Lateral moves from bookkeeping, accounts payable, or payroll analysis roles are a common bridge into entry tax work.
Where can I find and apply to tax analyst jobs in Virginia?
