Tax Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax analyst in New York?
Most tax analyst roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers give preference to candidates who hold or are pursuing a CPA license. The New York State CPA license is issued by the New York State Board of Public Accountancy and requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination, meeting education requirements, and completing experience hours under a licensed CPA. Entry-level candidates who begin in staff accounting or tax associate roles at public accounting or corporate finance teams in New York build toward this path.
Which companies hire tax analysts in New York?
Employers hiring tax analysts in New York right now include EY, RR Donnelley, and Citi, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of financial institutions, Big Four accounting firms, and Fortune 500 corporate headquarters makes it one of the most active states for ongoing tax analyst recruiting.
Which New York cities have the most tax analyst jobs?
New York and Grand Island have the most tax analyst openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its density of investment banks, asset managers, multinational corporations, and professional services firms, while Buffalo and Albany support demand through regional corporate headquarters, state government agencies, and mid-market accounting practices that rely on in-state tax professionals.
Are there remote tax analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. Tax analysis is a desk-based, data-intensive role well suited to remote work, and many New York employers have adopted hybrid or fully remote arrangements for this position. About 96% of tax analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly the role has shifted since pandemic-era policy changes. Federal and state compliance work and tax provision preparation are the tasks most commonly performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a tax analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a staff tax associate or tax intern role at a public accounting firm, where New York offices of firms like Grant Thornton, BDO, and regional practices run structured new-graduate programs each recruiting cycle. Candidates moving from adjacent roles such as accounts payable analyst, bookkeeper, or financial analyst also make this transition regularly. Completing coursework in federal and New York State taxation and actively pursuing CPA exam sections gives early-career candidates a clear edge when applying to these programs.
Where can I find and apply to tax analyst jobs in New York?
