Accounting Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting analyst in New York?
Most accounting analyst roles in New York require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers prefer candidates who hold or are pursuing a CPA license through the New York State Education Department. The New York State Board of Regents oversees CPA licensure, which requires completing credit hour requirements, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Examination, and fulfilling supervised experience hours. Candidates without a CPA can enter through staff accountant or financial analyst roles at large employers and pursue licensure while working.
How much do accounting analysts make in New York?
Accounting analysts in New York earn a median of about $88,540 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $64,990 for the lowest 10% to over $135,190 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accounting analysts in New York?
Employers hiring accounting analysts in New York right now include Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorganChase, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's deep concentration of financial services firms, hospital systems, and large media and real estate companies means consistent openings appear across both corporate headquarters and regional offices throughout the state.
Which New York cities have the most accounting analyst jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Albany have the most accounting analyst openings in New York. New York City dominates because of its extraordinary density of financial services firms, corporate headquarters, and major healthcare and media employers, while White Plains draws openings from the large companies headquartered in Westchester County and Albany sees demand from state government agencies and regulated industries centered in the capital region.

About 26% of accounting analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how well the desk-based, analytical nature of the role adapts to distributed work. Financial reporting, budget variance analysis, and reconciliation tasks are the most commonly performed remotely, while roles tied to physical audits or on-site controller functions tend to require in-person presence.
