Accounting Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a accounting analyst in California?
Most accounting analyst roles in California require a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and many employers prefer candidates who are pursuing or have passed the CPA exam administered through the California Board of Accountancy. A CPA license is not required for most analyst positions, but it signals credibility and opens doors to senior roles. Gaining experience with California-heavy industries such as technology, entertainment, or healthcare strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
How much do accounting analysts make in California?
Accounting analysts in California earn a median of about $99,520 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,170 for the lowest 10% to over $149,650 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire accounting analysts in California?
Employers hiring accounting analysts in California right now include Apple, ENTRUST Solutions, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of technology headquarters, major healthcare systems, and entertainment studios means demand is spread across a wider range of industries than most other states.
Which California cities have the most accounting analyst jobs?
San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego have the most accounting analyst openings in California. Los Angeles leads due to its entertainment conglomerates and sprawling healthcare networks, San Francisco and San Jose concentrate demand around technology and venture-backed companies, while San Diego's biotech and defense sectors generate consistent openings in financial analysis roles.
Are there remote accounting analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 26% of accounting analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based, software-driven nature of the work. Financial reporting, FP&A modeling, and reconciliation tasks are most frequently performed fully remotely, while roles tied to physical inventory or on-site audits typically require at least partial in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a accounting analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an accounts payable, accounts receivable, or junior staff accountant role at a mid-size or large California employer, where you can build close and reconciliation experience before moving into an analyst title. Large California healthcare systems such as Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health, along with technology firms in the Bay Area, run structured new-graduate rotational or associate finance programs. Pursuing CPA exam credits through the California Board of Accountancy or earning a CPA-track certificate from a California State University campus gives early-career candidates a measurable edge.
Where can I find and apply to accounting analyst jobs in California?
